Limited Browsing and Curbside Pickup Procedure as of June 16, 2020

Dear Clark Memorial Library Community,

In accordance with the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Governor’s orders regarding public safety during this pandemic, we are pleased to continue to offer curbside pickup of library materials as well as some limited browsing inside the library. Guidelines for each of these services are provided below. We are excited for the opportunity to get library materials out to our community while we practice and encourage safe procedures. All patrons either inside or out are required to wear a face mask and stay at least 6 feet away from anyone else. No one will be allowed inside the library without a mask.

  • Curbside pickup will continue to be offered, as well as, limited in-person browsing and check out during the following hours.

                                       Tuesdays 1 - 5 pm

                                       Wednesdays 10 am – 2 pm

                                       Thursdays 4 - 8 pm

                                       Saturdays 10 am – 2 pm

  • Borrowers who would prefer contactless curbside pickup must call during hours the library is open to request items and make an appointment for pick up.  Patrons will receive a 15-minute window for a pickup time. Patrons requesting items will receive a reference number when they call; the requested items will be clearly labeled with this number (not your name) and placed on a table on the porch outside the library. Participants should wear masks and engage in social distancing while picking up materials.

  • All library materials should be returned in our book drop even if you are planning on going into the building. All returned items will be disinfected in the library before they are loaned out again.  As an added precaution, we recommend you place library materials you take home in an undisturbed area for 24 hours before you use them.

  • Browsing in the library will be limited to 5 patrons at any one time.  Please limit your browsing to the displays, children’s books, DVDs, and the new book section.  Please follow the markings on the floor which provide directional guidance for each row in which you will be allowed to browse.  If you’d like something from our stacks, you can request it while present and one of the staff can get it for you.

  • Clark Memorial Library will be able to provide materials available in our collection with a speedy response. You are now able to place holds on items that are not currently available in our collection, but delivery times may be longer than usual since we are no longer receiving daily material transfers. To search our collection visit: https://catalog.oslri.net/ and under "View Entire Collection" select the drop down menu and scroll down to Clark Memorial. Borrowers may request specific items or they may ask for items on a certain topic or by a certain author – or they may ask for library staff suggestions!  OSL is limiting holds to 10 items per borrower.

  • Unfortunately, at this time, there will be no newspaper and magazines available for viewing. As well, we will not be able to accommodate studying inside the library at our study carrels.

  • Only 2 computers will be available with a 15-minute time limit per patron.  After each use of the computer the library staff will disinfect the computer before another patron is permitted to use it. Remember our WI-FI is always available, even out in the parking lot.

  • There will be 1 public restroom available to patrons.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate the course to reopening over the next few weeks, pending any future changes to guidelines per, the Rhode Island Department of Health, the Governor and OLIS policy. Please stay up to date for any changes to this procedure via our website, Facebook, and Instagram. Finally, stay well!
